A Look Back at Miami Art Week in Brickell & Downtown Miami

Another Art Basel Miami Beach and Miami Art Week has come and gone. Here are the some of best events we saw across Brickell and Downtown Miami.

Brooklyn’s MOTHXR (pictured above) brought indie vibes to Brickell City Center’s South Miami Avenue Bridge on Monday, November 28, 2016.  The live performance heralded in a new partnership between Swire Properties and United Talent Agency.

EAST, Miami previewed its forthcoming Art Room with two private exhibits, complimentary Pernod Ricard drinks, and passed bites. Read more here. EAST also hosted “Parental Advisory: Explicit Images – A Hip-Hop Event and Photography Exhibit” where snaps by Timothy White, Danny Clinch, Janette Beckman and Clay Patrick McBride were on display.  Run-DMC’s Darryl “DMC” McDaniels (pictured below) took the stage to run through his famous repertoire.

The #RitzRainbow (pictured in the feature image) lit up the night sky and arced across Biscayne Bay. The installation is an extension of Yvette Mattern’s Global Rainbow and was presented by Lionheart Capital and The Ritz Miami Beach Residences.

The Mandarin Oriental Miami hosted an exhibit of wearable art in tandem with Diamonds Unleased by Kara Ross. The fashionable displays included nail art, illustrations, tattoos, and paintings, as well as interpretations of the staple “All in One Dress” by Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Lifetime Achievement Award Winner Norma Kamali. Participating artists included Mei Kawajiri, Stuart Semple, Julia Heffernan, PJ Linden (pictured above on the right with Sarah Stuve), Claire Luxton, Georgia Grey, Carly Jean Andrews, Ivan Alifan, Dave Pollot, Kendra Dandy, Damon Lucas, Bradley Theodore, Alonso Guevara, Julia Rich, Ashley Longshore, Alex Garant, Francine Dressler, AM DeBrincat, Serkan Akyol, Mengyao GUO, Amit Greenberg, and two students from New York’s Parsons School of Design.
