The Jose Marti Park might be undergoing a massive renovation in the foreseeable future. Last Monday, the Miami River Commission reviewed plans proposed by the Chetrit Group to reinvigorate the Jose Marti Park, which would be redone by landscape architect Raymond Jungles. Among the main changes that park would go through would be its annexation with the neighboring project and the installation of a luminescent hanging sculpture to the highway above.

The project in question is part of the $21 million worth of investment in public benefits by the Chetrit Group, which is required in order for them to proceed with their massive development, which is currently titled ‘Miami Riverwalk’. The real estate developer is carrying this donation out in order to comply with the condition found under the Miami 21 zoning code, which holds that developers who make contributions to public benefits are allowed to carry out larger projects than are normally allowed.

Among the new features that the Jose Marti Park will gain from the Chetrit Group’s charity are a revitalized lawn and lush landscaping, a new playground, a new exercise area, a revamped pool, new entry plazas, improved accessibility to the park for Brickell residents, and overall improvements to all aspects of the park.

Directly above the park, hanging from the highway, a colossal sculpture is to be crafted by the renowned sculptorJanet Echelman. Having designed and shaped spectacular artwork all around the globe, hopefully Janet Echelman will add Miami to the list of cities which showcases her work. Her art can be found across the United States, Europe, Asia, and even in Australia. You can admire her different sculptures by clicking here: Janet Echelman. Miami Dade’s Department of Cultural Affairs will have to review her design before giving her the green light to take our breaths away.
