Ramen Pops Up Inside Baby Jane

Baby Jane is switching food gears, swapping out its regular menu for a Japanese pop-up dubbed Shimuja. The indefinite move in imports from Kagoshima, Japan, where master chef Keiichi Maemuri mans three izakaya restaurants. If the names sound familiar, it’s because the pop-up has made its way around town, now settling in Brickell for about a year before opening a family-style eatery in Davie.

The ramen offerings are anchored by the Kagoshima special ($20), a deep, pork-based bone broth bowl topped with an egg: This hearty order is nicely cut by the cold cucumber appetizer. Other notable options are the pork buns, a moist Japanese fried chicken, and the Western-friendly “mozzarella sticks.”

While over ordering at Shimuja is tempting, buyer beware: The Japanese do not traditionally do take away, and neither will Baby Jane.
